Triple Bottom Line (3BL) E-mail

Kopali Communities is a Triple Bottom Line organization. Our success is not only measured by fair financial profitability, but it is equally measured by meeting and exceeding our commitment to improving the lives, the communities and the ecosystems of which we are all an integral part

'Net Givers vs. Net Takers'

'PEOPLE' (Human Capital) - This pertains to the fair and beneficial business practices toward labor and the local community, region and country in which we create our communities.  We seek to 'give back' by contributing to the strength and growth of the local community with actionable responses in the areas of housing, education, employment, healthcare, economic stimulation, etc.

'PLANET' (Natural Capital) - This refers to sustainable and meaningful environmental practices. Kopali Communities endeavors to honor and benefit the natural order as much as reasonably possible. At the very least, we will do no harm by proactively curtailing negative environmental impacts and expanding beneficial impacts, by reducing and carefully managing our energy consumption and non-renewable resources and substantially reducing our waste.

'PROFIT' -
This is the 'bottom line' shared by all commerce.  In addition to fairly earned internal profits necessary to perpetuate the business and reward the shareholders, this bottom line also represents the lasting economic impact we have on our economic environment and host society.

Kopali's Triple Bottom Line Commitment:

Through the professional efforts of local sociologist/anthropologist, Mayela Valverde,

we immediately commenced our awareness and understanding of our local community, San Mateo.

We completed a socio-political assessment.  This assessment has become the basis for our social and economic road map, understanding the history, culture, customs and traditions as well as the strengths and the weaknesses that San Mateo residents are facing.  We do not intend to 'fix' San Mateo, but rather to assist its people with its prioritized issues as the region changes ever-so-quickly.

In June, 2007, the ' Comision Vision San Mateo' was formed, including key representatives from Kopali, municipal leaders, clergymen, elders, youth, professionals, etc. The objective of this commission is to better understand the needs of the people - directly from the people while assuring their understanding of our plans and goals.  However, our Triple Bottom Line commitment does not end there.  (see 'Stories from the 3BL)

Good for you, good for the people and good for the planet

Valle de Machuca is a place for people who wish to live healthy and sustainable lifestyles.  A place where there are no fences between neighbors.  A place where "community" truly has meaning.  A place where environmental stewardship and social justice are everyday issues - not just a fleeting notion.  We wish to create a home where residents can live, work and play...where children can play outside without fear of harm.

Do you know where your food comes from?

Most people answer this question with a "no!"  In today's world, our food systems have become industrialized and globalized, our seeds have been hijacked by corporations who wish to control what is grown for human consumption and our crops are genetically modified mono-cultures where yield is valued more than nutrition.  Residents of a Kopali community wish to not only know where their food comes from, but also who is cultivating and caring for it.
